UFC 328: A Return to Newark

On May 9, 2026, the Ultimate Fighting Championship descends upon the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, for UFC 328. This marks the promotion's twelfth visit to the vibrant city, continuing a tradition of delivering thrilling combat sports action to the East Coast.

Newark has proven to be a fantastic host for UFC events, consistently drawing passionate crowds. This particular card follows UFC 316, which took place in June 2025, showing the consistent demand and excitement for world-class MMA in the region.

The Championship Main Event

Headlining UFC 328 is a monumental clash for the UFC Middleweight Championship — an undisputed title bout between the reigning, undefeated champion, Khamzat Chimaev, and the fiery former champion, Sean Strickland. This is a matchup that promises fireworks, pitting two distinct styles against each other.

Khamzat 'Borz' Chimaev has been a dominant force since entering the UFC, steamrolling through opponents with a relentless, suffocating grappling style combined with surprising striking power. His undefeated record speaks volumes, making him one of the most feared champions in the sport today.

Facing him is Sean Strickland, known for his relentless pressure, unorthodox striking, and unapologetically candid personality. Strickland’s journey to becoming a former champion was hard-fought, and he's eager to reclaim the gold, promising a grueling challenge for Chimaev.

Rescheduled and Anticipated Bouts

Beyond the main event, UFC 328 features several other compelling fights, many with their own backstories. A middleweight showdown between former LFA champion Osman Diaz and Ateba Gautier is finally set to happen here, after an initial booking at UFC 320 in October 2025 was postponed due to a medical issue for Diaz.

In the welterweight division, an exciting matchup between Sean Brady and Joaquin Buckley has also found its new home at UFC 328. This bout was originally slated to headline a 'Fight Night' event, but for undisclosed reasons, it was moved to this bigger stage, adding more star power to the card.

Featherweight fans also have a rescheduled treat: Daniel Santos versus Choi Doo-ho. This pairing was initially planned for UFC Fight Night: Ulberg vs. Reyes in September 2025, but Choi withdrew. Now, both fighters are ready to finally meet in the octagon.
