The Rise of Marcos Senesi

Born Marcos Nicolás Senesi Barón in Argentina, this robust defender has become a prominent figure in professional football. A natural centre-back, he commands the defensive line for Premier League club Bournemouth and proudly represents the Argentina national team.

Breaking Through in Argentina

Senesi's professional journey began at San Lorenzo de Almagro, one of Argentina's most storied clubs. He made his senior debut on September 25, 2016, stepping onto the field as a starter in the fiercely competitive Argentine Primera División. It was a clear sign of the club's faith in his burgeoning talent.

Just over a year later, on September 16, 2017, Senesi celebrated a personal milestone, scoring his first and only goal for San Lorenzo. This crucial goal secured a 1–0 victory against Arsenal de Sarandí, proving his ability to contribute offensively even from a defensive position.

A New Chapter in Europe: Feyenoord

His impressive performances in Argentina didn't go unnoticed. On September 2, 2019, Senesi made a significant move to European football, signing a four-year contract with Dutch giants Feyenoord. This transfer marked a major step up, placing him in one of Europe's top leagues.

He quickly settled into his new surroundings. On November 10 of the same year, Senesi scored his inaugural goal for Feyenoord—a dramatic, late-game header from a free kick in the 85th minute, sealing a thrilling 3–2 victory against RKC Waalwijk. It was a perfect introduction to the passionate Feyenoord faithful.

During his time at Feyenoord, Senesi blossomed into one of the Eredivisie's most respected defenders. He played a pivotal role, showcasing his leadership, aerial dominance, and composure on the ball. His consistent performances even helped Feyenoord reach the final of the UEFA Europa Conference League in 2022.

The Premier League Beckons

After establishing himself as a key player in the Netherlands, Senesi caught the eye of Premier League clubs. On August 8, 2022, he completed a transfer to AFC Bournemouth, signing another four-year deal. This move placed him in one of the most demanding and watched leagues in the world.

Adapting to the intensity and pace of the Premier League, Senesi quickly became a defensive anchor for Bournemouth. His strong tackling, tactical awareness, and ability to play out from the back proved invaluable, helping the club navigate the challenges of top-flight English football.

An International Dilemma

A truly unique moment in Senesi's career arrived when he received simultaneous call-ups from two national teams: Italy and Argentina. Due to his Italian heritage, he was eligible for both, creating a fascinating choice right before the 2022 Finalissima—a match where these two footballing giants would face each other.

Ultimately, Senesi chose to represent his birth country, Argentina. He made his highly anticipated debut for the Albiceleste on June 5, 2022, in a friendly match against Estonia. This decision underscored his deep connection to his homeland and his dream of playing for Argentina on the global stage.

Honours and Accolades

Senesi's career, while still in full swing, already boasts notable achievements. He was a UEFA Europa Conference League runner-up with Feyenoord, a testament to his impact on the European stage. He also lifted the CONMEBOL–UEFA Cup of Champions with Argentina in 2022, marking a significant international triumph.

Beyond team trophies, his individual skill has been recognized. In the 2020–21 season, Senesi was awarded the prestigious Eredivisie Goal of the Year, a rare honour for a defender, showcasing his flair and ability to score spectacular goals.
