Behind the Curtain: A New Production Team
This year, the 79th Tony Awards will see a fresh creative team at the helm. Raj Kapoor, Sarah Levine Hall, and Jack Sussman are stepping into the roles of producers, bringing their vision to this highly anticipated event.
They'll be taking the reins from the long-standing duo of Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss of White Cherry Entertainment. Kirshner and Weiss were the masterminds behind the ceremony's production for over two decades, from 2004 to 2025, leaving big shoes to fill.
The Road to a Tony: Eligibility Rules
Before any production can even dream of a Tony nomination, it must meet stringent eligibility criteria. These rules are meticulously set forth by the American Theatre Wing and The Broadway League, ensuring only true Broadway productions are considered.
For the 2025–2026 season, a production had to officially open on Broadway between April 28, 2025, and April 26, 2026. This specific window ensures that all shows considered are truly representative of the defined season.
Another crucial requirement? The production must be performed in one of the 41 legitimate Broadway-eligible theaters. This ensures that only shows with the scale and commitment of a Broadway run can contend for the theater world's highest honor.
Once all criteria are met, the anticipation builds! Audiences and industry insiders alike will eagerly await the announcement of the 2026 Tony Award nominations, which are scheduled to be revealed on May 5, 2026. It's the moment when dreams start to feel tangible.
