2026 Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council election
Calderdale was created in 1974 as a metropolitan borough. The Conservatives held control until (/wiki/1976CalderdaleMetropolitanBoroughCouncilelection?action=edit&redlink=1), when the council fell into no overall control. Labour formed their first majority in (/wiki/1990CalderdaleMetropolitanBoroughCouncilelection?action=edit&redlink=1) and remained the largest party until (/wiki/1999CalderdaleMetropolitanBoroughCouncilelection). The Conservatives last held a majority from (/wiki/2000CalderdaleMetropolitanBoroughCouncilelection) to (/wiki/2002CalderdaleMetropolitanBoroughCouncilelection); following over a decade of no overall control, Labour won a majority of seats in (/wiki/2019CalderdaleMetropolitanBoroughCouncilelection) and have held control since.
This election will be held on a new set of ward boundaries – as such, all seats will be up for election. The number of thee-member wards has increased by one.
